Only the girls play this weekend

This weekend was a break in Youth and Junior Rugby due to the international fixture of Scotland V Argentina. This should have been a break for the First XV also, but they were required to play in the Caledonia Cup against Moray. With a number of players with tickets for the game, along with working offshore and injured, Ellon forfeited the game, allowing Moray to progress.
The only section playing was the girls U15 team who headed down on Friday to Glasgow for a small 7s event before going on to watch the Scotland Women play Spain. Held on the 3G back pitch at Scotstoun, the home of Glasgow Warriors, the girls had three games, against Auchterader, Ayr and Caithness. Although they lost all three games, the girls who are very new to rugby, got some exposure to contact and tackling. In the process they Scored through Georgia Badland taking a quick free kick and catching Ayr unawares. After the games, the team moved to the main stand to watch Ex Ellon player Emma Wassell play second row for Scotland. In a good flowing game, all the points were scored in the first half as Spain took the game 5 – 10. It is a two legged game with the score from this match added to the score from the reversed fixture this weekend in Madrid. The overall winner takes a place at the Women’s Rugby World Cup in Ireland next year. Scotland will be looking for more of the same as the dominated the scrum and line out, with local heroin Emma taking a lead role. The Scotland Women attacked more than usual, and defended very well, stopping a 10 minute constant attack by Spain on and over their line. The work new head coach Shade Munro is doing is paying off.
This weekend Ellon First XV have no game, while the Youth Section take on Gordonstoun in the Red Conference. Games are Saturday - U13 and U14 both 10:00 KO, U15 and U16 11:20 KO and U18 13:00 KO all at the Meadows, Ellon.
Sunday the Juniors have a home festival that starts at 11:00 at the Meadows against a number of teams from all over Scotland.
