Lack of Rugby this weekend, but plenty of help!

With 53 games cancelled and only 4 on this weekend, Ellon Rugby had their games and Meadows training called off.

The First XV were due to travel to Elgin to play Kinloss, but a morning inspection led to the game being postponed to the end of the season.

Also off was the U18 cup game against Aberdeen Wanderers, which has now been moved to this Saturday 13:00 KO. All training for the Juniors and Youth at the Meadows was cancelled also. However coaches used their initiative and scoured the region to find places to train. Some managed to get a slot in the Ellon Academy Hall (which is usually fully booked), while others moved to Newburgh beach to train hard in the sand.

Meanwhile Ellon Rugby helped out most of Sunday with the AB41 (Ex Ellon) Flood Response Team and went door to door seeking what help people required and starting a plan of action. A few garages where cleared of the damaged items and help given in tidying up. Most house holds are not ready for a full clear out, but Ellon Rugby have promised to be available at weekends should people require it. They finished up the day by tidying up their own two containers which were flooded. One container housed all the tackle pads, suits and tubes. This was effected the most and a number had to be thrown away. Those that were suitable to keep where very wet on the bottom, so they were taken out and put into trailers. They have since been taken to an industrial drier on a farm owned by The Store in Foveran. They have very kindly offered to dry out the pads for Ellon Rugby. The containers themselves need a clean out, but the mud and residue is frozen! A second clean out will be needed once the thaw comes!

This weekend training should resume as the weather improves. On Saturday the U18 KO at 13:00 at home against Aberdeen Wanderers and the First XV host Deeside at 14:00.
This Sunday, Ellon Rugby S1 play Boroughmuir with a 11:30-12:00 KO depending on the arrival time of Boroughmuir. Both teams are keen for a first game in 2016 and the weather looks much better.
Before Christmas Boroughmuir played in the Presidents Conference, and had thee wins and three losses with the rest not played due to weather. They lost to Ayr, Stirling and Currie, while beating West of Scotland and Highland.
The easiest comparison is that Boroughmuir beat Highland 14 - 4 at home, and Ellon beat Highland 30 - 0 in Inverness.
It should be a close competitive game with Ellon bringing in a couple of changes and a few positional swaps as they try players out in different positions.
Come down and support the teams on the Second Team pitch at the Meadows this Sunday 11:30
